Print Buyers Conference Combines Print, Passion and ‘Phun’
With apologies to Barry Manilow: “Print, ‘Phun’ and Passion were always in fashion” at Margie Dana’s 2nd Annual Print Buyers International Conference last week in Westford, Mass. The conference proved to be a great place to learn and have a really good time, too.
From the “Clash of the Printing Titans” dinner keynote presentation featuring industry thought-leaders Frank Romano and Dr. Joe Webb, to 16 separate learning sessions with top-notch speakers . . . to numerous other special events and opportunities, Margie’s conference was a home run right in the heart of Red Sox Nation, which is still celebrating its 2007 baseball World Series Championship. (And, yes, it still hurts this big-time Yankees fan to acknowledge that!)
Some of the conference ‘Phun’ included two promotions featuring renowned commercial illustrator Jeff Moores:
Commemorative Conference Poster: Moores created this interesting and intricate commemorative conference poster, which was printed exquisitely by RR Donnelley's Andrews CT Plant on its Xerox iGen3 110 Digital Production Press. Each of the more than 200 print buyers (brand-owners, marketers, publishers, business communicators, creatives and corporate print production pros) in attendance received their own beautiful, poster-size print. Many raved about the concept, the content and the image quality.
The poster was sponsored by RR Donnelley and Xerox Corp. through its Xerox Premier Partners global network of more than 660 digital print services providers — including RR Donnelley.
Cartoons On-Demand: Moores also had his own booth at the show, where the veteran illustrator created “cartoons” of attendees, depicting a favorite hobby, pastime or career niche. For example, here, Moores depicted Valerie Safai of Grace Construction Products in Cambridge, Mass., on safari.
Jeff’s appearance was sponsored by Adobe Systems and Xerox Corp., and he created his work using Adobe Photoshop CS3 for printing on-demand on a Xerox Phaser 7760 Color Laser Printer, on Xerox Digital Color Supreme Gloss 10 pt. Coated One Side paper.
Both of these promotions were fun ways to reinforce the value and benefits of today’s digital color printing technologies and techniques before more than 200 influential and savvy print buyers and specifiers — who were busy soaking up all they could about The New Business of Printing.
Next year, be sure to check-out Margie Dana’s conference — for Print, Phun and Passion at the hottest spot (for print buyers) north of Havana!
